Ronald McDonald House!!

Instead of asking for gifts at the kid's party we asked each family to perform a random act of kindness and write it in a card.  We also decided to collect wipes and toilet paper for Roanoke's Ronald McDonald House!  (this is where I would like to state that we just felt led to do this this year...it doesn't mean we will do it every year or that we think you are bad if your child receives presents...it worked for us this year and it made all of our hearts happy!)  Chris and I explained to Sam what we were thinking of and when he responded, "well I guess the people at the Ronald McDonald House need to wipe their butt too" we knew he understood! HA! Two days after we sent out the invitations Chris got a call from an old coworker who now coaches soccer in Floyd (about an hour's drive away).  He was calling Chris to see if knew anyone in the Floyd area that could coach his soccer team because his son was just born 2 months early and he and his wife were having to stay at the Roanoke Ronald McDonald House.  Both of us had tears in our eyes!  Here we are dropping off our donations!

They sent a super sweet thank you card to Sam and Charley!   And they informed Sam that they did need lots of toilet paper because they had 16 bathrooms!  Every time we pass the hospital Sam talks about how there are "sick kids" in there but that we helped their families...such a sweet lesson in compassion.

I also loved the "Random Acts of Kindness"!   Mom made a donation to a local fallen solder's family, Tony carried out boxes for the UPS man so he didn't have to make two trips, the Jones family sponsored a child in Guatemala, and Cam and Wayne made a donation to the local zoo...just to name a few!  It was a sweet time to open the cards and read the kind words!
